8:00 PM: Free Movie - The Karate Kid

The Karate Kid

Music and Movie event has been cancelled due to weather. This event will not be rescheduled.

Columbia Pictures
Rated PG; 127 minutes; 1984

Ralph Macchio stars in this warm and wonderful film as the perennial 98-pound weakling who turns the tables on his tormentors. A finely choreographed karate film, THE KARATE KID also shows that humor, courage, pride, and beliefs are what really matter in disagreements.

JULY 18

6:30 PM: Free Music - The Jack Hadley Band (blues)
8:00 PM: Free Movie - Fast And Furious

The Fast and The Furious

Universal Pictures
Rated PG-13; 99 minutes; 2009

This sequel brings back the original stars of the fuel-injected series. Racing muscle cars across LA, ex-con Dom Toretto reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Connor. But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmaneuver him.

JULY 25

6:30 PM: Free Music - Julia Bryan and the Last Flight Out (blues/country/rock)
8:00 PM: Free Movie - The Bad News Bears

Bad News Bears

Paramount
Rated PG; 102 minutes; 1976

A major surprise as one of the year's top grossing films, THE BAD NEWS BEARS is a movie about children that is refreshing, utterly believable, and quite cleverly funny. Walter Matthau is at his absolute best as the grumbling beer-guzzling former minor-league pitcher who gets roped into coaching a band of half-pint misfits somewhat loosely called a team. With this bunch in uniform, it's impossible to get caught up in the suburban competitive spirit that drives other adults to extremes of parental discipline. So, instead, the Bears have a good time.

AUGUST 1

6:30 PM: Free Music - The Mile Markers (folk)
8:00 PM: Free Movie - Blue Crush

Blue Crush

Universal Pictures; Directed by John Stockwell
PG-13, 104 minutes, 2002

Anne Marie gets up every morning to attack the surf and practice for the Rip Masters surf competition.  She has moved to Hawaii on her own and lives her life only for the surf scene.  When she meets pro quarterback Matt Tollman she falls for him and loses her balance in and out of the waves.

AUGUST 8

6:30 PM: Free Music - The Red Sax Trio (Jazz)
8:00 PM: Free Movie - Hoosiers

Hoosiers

Hemdale
Rated PG; 114 minutes; 1987

Hickory, Indiana is a small remote farm community where the train seldom stops, strangers are suspect, and most of the excitement is provided by high school basketball frenzy. When a controversial outsider (Gene Hackman) is hired to teach and coach, he bewilders the townspeople, changes lives, and challenges youngsters to pursue their dreams.

AUGUST 15

6:30 PM: Free Music - Buckstein (country-rock)
8:00 PM: Free Movie - Friday Night Lights

The Karate Kid

Universal Pictures
Rated PG-13; 117 minutes; 2004

Based on the best-selling book by H.G. Bissinger, this film chronicles the 1988 football season of the Permian High Panthers in Odessa, Texas.  In this economically depressed town the weeks tend to not be happy ones but when Friday night comes around everyone heads to the football field where the team is revered like royalty.  Odessa stands in for every small town that has been broken down by time but whose inhabitants need just one bright spot to keep their dreams alive.
